March 20th, 2001 Hello :-), Can you help us? A homeless couple, white (Jack, age 58 and Emma, age 62, need some help in locating an affordable place for us to live/rent and a job/s, so we can continue to pay the rent & living expenses. We have been mostly homeless for the past year, living/sleeping in our vehicles in Wal-Mart Shopping Centers, Truck Stops, low-cost motels, and a couple of mobile home parks, whenever we could. Our experience has been, that there are very few people, and even churches, that were willing to try and help us in our efforts to find a place we could afford to rent and jobs.

We just could not find any place we could afford to rent (about $200 to $300 or so a month) anywhere we have looked, the past year...(AL, GA, FL, SC, TN, KY, W.VA) , the average cost, with deposits and utility costs of even a small mobile home (over $1000+) was just more money than we had, no one we met would work with us on the rent/deposits and it was very hard for us to find employment, (our age has been a factor against us too), without a place to live first. We have been able to find odd jobs here and there, but we both need and want steady full time employment at a reasonable salary rate of about $8.00 to $10.00+hour The only income we have is a small widow's SS check, that Emma gets each month, and which we have been struggling to get by with, together with whatever odd job/income I could find.

Emma and I first met on the internet almost a year ago and have been together since we met in person last April 22, 2000 It was love at first sight for us and all we want to do is to try and start our lives over again... together. We both are good decent kind of people. We don't drink or use drugs, have never been arrested or in trouble before. We do both smoke. I am still in good general health, able to work so far, and Emma is able to work also, although she has to take medicene for high blood pressure, she still can work regular hours, as we both have proven, by working at Burger King together, until they cut our hours in half and we were forced to seek other employment.

We were stranded in a small town in North GA from November 8th 2000 through January 24th 2001 and were staying at a small motel, and helping the owner with maintenance work to help out on the cost of the room the owner let us stay in at a reduced cost...

Last January, 25th, we placed an ad seeking a place to live/work, in a GA farm market publication and a person who has a small farm, about 35 miles east of Atlanta, GA who needed someone to help him do work around his farm called us at the motel, and so after we talked, and drove down to meet/talk with him, we signed a 90 day contract to work for him. That contract is up next month on April 25, 2001. We do have a small cottage to live in, with utilities, that the owner rents to us for $400 month) but the income I have been able to make so far, after the rent cost is paid, and living expenses, is far short of what we need. We do have a temp. place to live in, but when our 90 day contract expires April 25th next month, we have to make other arrangements. While we do appreciate the fact, that we do have a temp. place to live at the moment...it just is not meeting our needs and long term, We just don't think it's going to be a good situation for us...so we are trying to locate a better situation.

Do you know of anyone who might want to hire or at least talk with a couple like us and/or who might have a place we could rent/live in? We prefer to live out in the country, rural area, mountains, southern state like GA, FL, SC, NC, TN areas and we would prefer a seperate place to live, like maybe a 2 bedroom mobile home, cabin or house, that would be seperate from where the owner lives. We can do a wide variety of work/jobs, property caretaking, housekeeping, security, management, sales, most any kind of work. I'm a fast learner, able and willing to work. I have a resume, I can send by email to someone, if they are interested. All we are asking for, is for someone to give us the chance/opportunity to at least be able to rent an affordable place to live, work for income and be able to live a normal, peaceful and quite life together. We would prefer to work together as a team, but can also work seperately, if necessary. Please let us know by email, if you know of someone, who might need our help or who could help us. We have a telephone, and after the first email contact, we can talk by telephone to any interested person/s.

If you don't know of anyone, perhaps you might learn of something or someone or maybe you could tell your friends or others about us? We sure would appreciate any help and we thank you now, for any help you might be able to give us in this situation. All we can do is to keep trying our best to find a decent place to live and work.

Sincerely, Jack & Emma Please contact us by email at: jack9242@yahoo.com
